SCI’s main focus will be planning and executing an annual case competition which provides the unique opportunity for students to begin applying the knowledge they have acquired in the classroom, and to further their education with valuable work experience.
The consulting approach of each team is largely open-ended and flexible. A packet with all necessary information such as consulting resources and identifiable weaknesses of their business partner will be provided. Each team will have a designated SCI representative that will answer questions, provide insight, and introduce them to their business partner. Accountability for their progress will be achieved through three stages:
1.) Identification of problem areas
2.) Solution development
3.) Implementation of solution
A one page update will be required to be submitted to each team’s SCI representative for each of these stages. Also, the SCI representative will be in consistent contact with the business owner to ensure active participation.
After the competition is over, teams will be judged on predetermined criteria including:
•Relative improvements in business effectiveness and efficiency
•New systems implemented and accompanying results
•Sustainability of changes implemented
•Creative and feasible recommendations for future
Judges will consist of a panel of professional consultants from top-tier consulting firms. The winner of the competition will be the team who has most effectively implemented solutions to achieve the greatest overall enhancement of their business to the judges discretion.
A trophy luncheon will be provided for all SCI Case Competition participants, corporate sponsors, recruiters, and judges. This lunch includes presentation of awards and an opportunity to interact and network with all those involved.
